First History of West Islip by Gerald and Judith Wilcox
In 1976, Jerry and Judith Wilcox researched and wrote the “First History of West Islip.” They were ardent local historians and also pioneered the now-closed West Islip Community Museum, which was housed in the Community Center on Higbie Lane. Their daughter has given us permission to post a digital version of this book for all to enjoy. This is a large PDF file (36 MB) that you can save to your computer and read at your leisure.
West Islip Public Library Oral History Project

In April 1982, as part of the library’s 25th anniversary celebration, Ethel Morris and Carolyn Agenjo interviewed, recorded and photographed fifteen community residents who graciously shared their reminiscences of life in West Islip as it used to be.
