Book and Media Drop Box

Items may be returned to the library drop box 24/7. The blue box is located near the curb by the main entrance to the library. Items returned before the Library opens will be considered returned the previous day. Please note: Museum Passes, Hotspots and items from the Library of Things collection should never be placed in the drop box!

Coffee Corner

Visit the Coffee Corner in the Meeting Room Gallery to purchase a cup of freshly ground coffee or one of our other specialty hot beverages.

Computers & Printers

Computers and printers are available for use in both the Adult Reference & Children’s Rooms.

Adult Reference Room

There are 6 adult and 2 teen computers available that have Internet access, as well as office suite software installed on them. Patrons are given 50¢ worth of free printing per day. After that, users will be charged 10¢ per page for black & white print jobs and 25¢ per page for color print jobs.

Children’s Room

The Children’s Room has the following equipment available:

• Three computers for children in grades 3 – 6. These computers have Internet access & office suite software installed on them.  Black & white and color printing are free of charge for children in the Children’s Room.
• Four AWE Early Literacy Stations for children ages 2 – 8. These are touchscreen computers containing over 60 educational games and activities that span seven curricular areas.

Copy Machines

The Library has two color copy machines available for public use. One is located near the main entrance in the lobby and the other can be found in the main area of the Adult Reference Room.

Each copier is also a double-sided multi-page scanner. Pages can be scanned into PDF, MS Word or an image file format and then saved to a USB flash drive, sent to an email address or uploaded to Google Docs all free of charge. There is a photo scanner attached to the copier in the Adult Reference Room for scanning photos.

Copies cost 10¢ per black & white page and 25¢ per color page. Each machine accepts cash or credit card. Senior Citizens that live in the W.I. School District are allowed 3 free copies per day & will be charged for each page over that amount. Please see a staff member at the Circulation Desk for assistance.

Discount Attraction Tickets

The library sells discounted admission tickets to several regional attractions.  Tickets are sold at the Circulation Desk. Payment can be made with cash or check only. All sales are final; tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the West Islip Public Library. The list of attractions is seasonal and changes regularly, so please check the Discount Tickets page of our website or our Newsletter for the current ticket offerings.

Fax Machine

A fax machine is located at the Circulation Desk and a library staff member can send a fax on your behalf. The fees are as follows:

Outgoing faxes

• The first 5 pages are free – per each number dialed
• $1 for each additional page

Incoming Faxes

• Free

Homebound Delivery Program

Our Homebound Delivery Program is a delivery service of library materials directly to your doorstep that is meant for West Islip Library cardholders that are unable to visit the library due to a temporary/permanent illness or disability. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please print out an application and then return the completed application to the Adult Reference desk. You may also contact our Adult Reference Librarians for further assistance at (631) 661-7080 Ext. 274 or Reference@westisliplibrary.org.

Library of Things

The Library has a collection of items, or “things,” that we lend out to W.I. residents, such as yard games, hotspots, Bluetooth speakers, a  portable projector, a portable projection screen and much, much more. Mobile Printing

Print from Home or in the Library

Send documents to the library’s printer from your mobile devices; including laptops, tablets and smartphones. Submit print jobs from home or from within the library and then release them at the library’s Mobile Print Release Station. Please visit our Mobile Printing page for more information.

Museum Pass Program

The library lends out museum passes that have been generously provided by the Friends of the West Islip Public Library. Please visit our Museum Passes page to see a list of the museums and to read the rules and guidelines before reserving your passes.

Seed Library

Library patrons can now visit the Children’s Room to borrow up to 5 different seed packets (per family). Simply fill out a check-out form to let us know what you’ve taken, follow the planting instructions and then watch your garden grow!  Leftover seeds from any of your borrowed or purchased seed packets are welcome donations to our collection; however, we can only accept organic/non-GMO seeds. Text Magnifier

A Text Magnifier is available in the Adult Reference Room and may be used to magnify hard-to-read images and books.

ZoomText Magnifier/Reader software is available for use on three public computers that are also located in the Adult Reference Room.

WiFi Internet Access

The library offers free wireless Internet access within our building. A password is not required to join our network.

Wireless Internet Hotspots

West Islip Public Library cardholders can check out one of the mobile hotspots in our circulating collection. These hotspots let you connect your mobile device (smartphone, tablet or laptop) to free WiFi wherever you go and there is Sprint 4G LTE signal.
