What do the Friends do?
Since its founding in 1956, the mission of the Friends of the West Islip Library has been to support the growth and development of our community library. The Friends promote library use and provide financial assistance for programs and services in addition to those covered by the library’s operating budget.
Our dedicated volunteers manage book donations, maintain the lobby displays and hold special event book sales throughout the year. All funds raised through book sales are used to benefit our library and community in many ways.
Library Services & Programs Sponsored by the Friends include:
- Shredding Days in Spring & Fall
- Concerts throughout the year
- Local museum passes for patron use (Museum List)
- Reading Club prizes
- Community Libraries at local parks
- BookPage Magazine subscription for patrons
- Senior gifts during May for “Senior Month”
- Baby Welcome Kits
- Financial assistance to the library for various purposes
